05 Aug 1996, Munich, Germany --- Schloss Nymphenburg on the western outskirts of Munich was built as the summer residence of the Bavarian rulers. The central portion of the Castle is the oldest, dating from1664. Additions by Max Emmanuel, Prince Elector from 1679-1726, include the four lateral Pavilions. The Gardens were enlarged in 1701 by Carbonet and Girard, pupils of the famous Le Notre, who designed the Park at Versailles. --- Image by © Adam Woolfitt/Corbis
